Dust and Decay by Jonathan Mayberry most important line

I think the most improtant line is this, "The burn on Benny's shoulder felt white hot, and he was not 100 percent positive that the carpet coats had saved them from the teeth of the living dead." I think that this is the most important line of the chapter because Benny doesn't know if he has been infected or not by the zombie that bit him, and the whole book I think is about survival. Finding ways to live even if it is hard. I also think that this reveals somthing about Benny's character. I think that this reveals that he is determined. If he thought he had been infected and thought that he was going to die then he could've just given up and told his group to leave him, but instead he is not selfish and tries to help his group in any way possible. What else do you think this might reveal about himself?

Dust and Decay connections

The first connection I can make is a text to text connection, obviously this relates to The Walking Dead comic series. In both stories the world they are in is an apocolyptic taken over by zombies, and bothe deal with the struggles that they face. A text to world connection is when the government shut down. No zombies showed up but it did end the government although it didn't ruin ours completley. A text to self connection is a zombie themed run I did. A lot of people dressed up like zombies for this event and felt like real life.

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury text connections

One text to text connection I can make is the Harrison Bergeron story where everyone has a handicap so no one can over throw the government. This is a text to text because in both stories the government controls you. In Fahrenheit 451 you can't have books, in Harrison Bergeron you can't be normal. A text to world connection would be our government. I know that we don't have to burn every single book but there are still rules to follow and just like in books world. America has laws and in the book I guess one law is that they have to burn every single book. A lot of differences but some similarities. My last connection is a text to self. I can connect this story to myself because like I said in the last connection the 451 government has rules and so does my parents/government. I already said that one law in 451 is that you have to burn every single book, my parents don't make me burn every single book but the make me follow pretty simple rules like do all my chores, be respectful to them, etc. What connections can you make?

Reflection of Blog Post 1

My best post was my reading skills 1. In that post I did all of the requirements for reading skills on the rubric. I did all three of the text connections, I made predictions, and I asked questions. And I thought I did a little more than expected. For my whole blog I thought I did pretty well on it. I know that I struggled on the concept of the blog at first but I got the hang of it and started to get better at it. The only thing i wish i would of done more was i missed 2 weeks of posting. But other than that I did what i was supposed to do. This made me a better reader at analyzing books.

The choice I chose is choice 1. What I plan on doing next trimester is to read more books than what I did this trimester. I do feel like I could of done more. For writing I plan on to continue my blogging on my books. What I really still want to work at next trimester is analyzing books deeper than just stating the obvious taht anyone can do. For writing I would like to learn new words like bigger words and putting them into my writing to make them more interesting for the reader and have a more enjoyable time.

Characters 3

The character I have chosen is Lilah. Lilah is an predictable character that does mostly whatever she wants to do because Tom who is the leader of the group respects her a lot so she can do these things and not get yelled at. The reason she gets a lot of respect from Tom is because she is very strong. She has lost two people that was very close to her. One of them was her sister who she saw in person die at Gameland, Lilah had managed to survive "the pit" and others challenges the owners threw at her. She later escaped and lived in the Rot and Ruin for years and years and years. George was the second person who she lost but she did not know when until she met Tom. George saved her and her sister on the first night. They got separated by the people who run Gameland and George tried to find where the place was and disappeared somewhere and is most likely dead. Those first few moths of the apocalypse made her what she is in the book.

Conflict 2

Tom has a clue where to find his lost group member now that he has found a girl named Sally, who knows her way around the Rot and Ruin because she lives out there. Sally had seen what she thought was Benny but was actually the lost group member getting beat up and threatened so she tried to find Tom as soon as she could just tell him good and bad news. The good news was that they know where they are taking him to. The bad news is that he/she is being taken to a place called Gameland, which is know for the "z-games" and "the pit". Gameland is where people, mostly kids, are taken to fight zoms for the people who are in charge of the place's entertainment. Tom has been trying to stop that place for several years and now has an even stronger motivation to get rid of that place for good.

Conflict 1

To look for the lost member Tom goes looking for him/her alone at night. The other group members are back at a "safe house" staying there until Tom comes back. While Tom is away the trap they set which is zombie proof, but it is unset and is put away in a neat pile. So there must be somebody outside who doesn't like or is against them. And he is trying to get them killed becasue he cut loose all of the zombies in "Zom Forest". The total amount is around 500 of them and the group must figure out how to get out alive.

Right now in my book the Benny has still yet to find the lost member. I predict the his other group members will make him continue there journey without finding him/her. And I predict that will cause conflict about leaving or finding him/her.

The character I choose is Tom Imura(Benny's older brother). Tom is really confident in what he always does. He never has regrets. He has not changed a lot throughout the series so far. He interacts a lot with Benny and Lilah mostly in the book. He develops theme by giving Benny advice.

The character I am analyzing is Benny Imura(main character). Benny is a survivor in a zombie apocalypse with his brother Tom. Benny and Tom are starting to grow their friendship as siblings more and more each day. Although they have never been friends all the time, and now Benny has realized how harsh he was been to his brother he is mad at himself. He mostly has a person vs. self conflict. This causes a lot of conflict.

My recommendations for this book would be the whole sequel of Rot and Ruin. The first Book is Rot and Ruin, the second book is Dust and Decay, third book is Flesh and Bones, and the fourth is Fire and Ash

Dust and Decay by Jonathan Maberry Analysis 1

In a zombie apacolaypse four friends continue their adventure through out the rot and ruin to find what they think could help them survive or to escape where it is safe. I infer they will not find what they are looking for because they are traveling through the west of the US and I think it will be like finding a needle in a hay stack. Plus to them no one is completely safe you never know what could happen.

The book I am reading is Dust and Decay by Jonathan Maberry. This book takes place in the future where a zombie apacolypse has taken over the world. The part of the book I'm reading right now is a group of survivors(Benny, Tom, Lilah, Nix, and Chong) lose one of there members because of what happened earlier the day it happened. I predict they will never find the group member agian because i think he or she is one of the weakest of the group and doesn't know a whole lot about surviving. Also I believe he or she is unpredictable, so you never know what they could be thinking. The only question I have is why he or she left? He or she wasn't hated by the group so I don't know why. This is a text to text connection because in Rot and Ruin by Jonathan Maberry someone had also left. This is also a text to world connection because ther are many people who leave groups often. Finally this a text to self connection because one time before this my friend left my group for a project and I didn't know why.
